Reconnecting After an Argument™

A Couple Reset Workbook

Arguments happen. Disconnection doesn't have to last.

When emotions run high, it can be difficult to know what to say—or how to find your way back to each other. The Reconnecting After an Argument™ Couple Reset Workbook gives couples a simple, guided way to slow down, listen, repair, and reconnect after a difficult moment.

Created as part of the Warrior Couple™ movement by Surprise Boxxxes™, this printable helps couples remember that the goal isn't to win the argument. The goal is to find your way back to "us."

What’s Inside

This printable workbook includes practical exercises couples can complete together, including:

  • Before You Reconnect — identify what you're feeling and what you need before beginning the conversation.
  • The 10-Minute Reconnection Reset — a simple five-step process for calming down and reconnecting.
  • Repair Conversation Prompts — questions that help couples talk about what happened without turning the conversation into another argument.
  • Listen Without Fixing — practice listening to understand rather than listening to respond.
  • Next-Time Plan — create an agreement for handling future disagreements differently.
  • The Reconnection Promise — put your commitment to one another into words.
  • A Small Act of Reconnection — choose one simple action that brings warmth back into the relationship.
  • Why Reconnection Matters — a reminder of why repair is so important.
  • Our Reconnection Notes — space to write down thoughts, promises, and plans.

Why We Created It

A disagreement can leave two people feeling hurt, misunderstood, angry, or emotionally distant.

But what happens after the argument can be just as important as what happened during it.

Learning to repair doesn't mean pretending nothing happened. It means learning how to approach each other with greater understanding, take responsibility for your part, communicate what you need, and remember that you're partners—not opponents.

You don't have to be a perfect couple. You just have to keep showing up for each other.

How to Use the Printable

1. Take a pause.
Give yourselves enough time to calm down before trying to reconnect.

2. Print the workbook.
Each partner can use their own copy, or you can work through the pages together.

3. Start with the emotional check-in.
Identify what you're feeling and what you need before beginning the conversation.

4. Complete the 10-minute reset.
Keep it simple. Listen, validate, find common ground, and end with affirmation.

5. Talk about what happened.
Use the repair prompts to understand each other's perspective.

6. Create your next-time plan.
Decide together how you want to handle the next disagreement.

7. End with reconnection.
A hug, holding hands, a kind word, a walk, or simply sitting together can be the beginning of coming back to one another.

This Printable Is For Couples Who...

  • Have trouble reconnecting after disagreements
  • Feel like small arguments sometimes become much bigger
  • Want to communicate without immediately becoming defensive
  • Want to learn how to listen better
  • Are trying to reduce resentment and emotional distance
  • Want healthier ways to handle conflict
  • Want to become more intentional about their relationship
  • Believe their relationship is worth fighting for, not fighting against

A Simple Reminder

You don't have to fix everything tonight.

Sometimes reconnection starts with something incredibly small:

A softer voice.
A sincere apology.
A hand reaching across the space.
A willingness to listen.
A reminder that you're still on the same team.
