A date night with no competing tabs.
This is not a grand gesture. It is 30 minutes where the person in front of you wins over every notification, group chat, and half-finished scroll.
Pick a time, put both phones out of reach, and let the night get a little less crowded.
1. Make the handover obvious.
Put your phones in another room, on a charger, or in a drawer. Choose a time when you will check them again, so neither of you is wondering what you might be missing.
2. Pick one shared thing.
- Make a late snack together.
- Take a slow walk around the block.
- Pull a card, question, or memory out of thin air.
- Put on one song each and tell the story behind it.
Keep it easy. The point is presence, not performance.
3. Ask better than “How was your day?”
Try these instead:
- What made you feel most like yourself this week?
- What is something you want more of from us lately?
- What would make this weekend feel good, not just productive?
4. End while it still feels good.
Before you pick the phones back up, name one thing you enjoyed. That tiny close makes the next phone-down moment easier to choose.
